The Longitudinal Structure Function F L at Small X
We present a set of formulae to extract the longitudinal deep inelastic structure function F L from the transverse structure function F 2 and its derivative dF 2 /dlnQ 2 at small x. Using F 2 HERA data we obtain F L in the range 10 −4 ≤ x ≤ 10 −2 at Q 2 = 20 GeV 2. We present here the values of F L (x, Q 2) at small x, extracted from experimental HERA data 1,2 using the method of replacement of...
متن کاملBFKL evolution and universal structure function at very small x
The Balitskii-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) and the Gribov-Lipatov-Dokshitzer-Altarelli-Parisi (GLDAP) evolution equations for the diffractive deep inelastic scattering at 1 x ≫ 1 are shown to have a common solution in the weak coupling limit: F2(x,Q ) ∝ [αS(Q)] ( 1 x )∆IP . The exponent γ and the pomeron intercept ∆IP are related by γ∆IP = 4 3 for the Nf = 3 active flavors. The existence of this...
متن کاملThe longitudinal structure function of the proton for small x ∗
A comparison of the H1 data on the longitudinal structure function, FL, at small x with the predictions from the generalized vector dominance / color dipole picture (GVD/CDP) is presented. Using the set of parameters previously determined in the fits to the total cross section, σγ∗p, we find good agreement with the data for FL. Scaling in η = (Q 2 +m0)/Λ (W ) is discussed in detail for the long...
متن کاملThe Photon Structure Function at Small-x
It is shown that recent small–x measurements of the photon structure function F γ 2 (x,Q) by the LEP–OPAL collaboration are consistent with parameter–free QCD predictions at all presently accessible values of Q. Recently the OPAL collaboration [1] at the CERN–LEP collider has extended the measurements of the photon structure function F γ 2 (x,Q ) into the small–x region down to x ≃ 10, probing ...
متن کاملA PHENOMENOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE LONGITUDINAL STRUCTURE FUNCTION AT SMALL x AND LOW Q
The longitudinal structure function in deep inelastic scattering is one of the observables from which the gluon distribution can be unfolded. Consequently, this observable can be used to constrain the QCD dynamics at small x. In this work we compare the predictions of distinct QCD models with the recent experimental results for FL(x,Q ) at small x and low Q obtained by the H1 collaboration. We ...
